Review · Alternatives
The Janitor AI alternative for roleplay that remembers.
Janitor AI makes it easy to find a character you love. Here is how LoreWeaver compares on memory, character cards, price, and content rules, and how to move a character over without losing its lorebook.
LoreWeaver publishes this comparison. Janitor AI’s details come from its help center, app listing, and the other pages under Sources, and we update the page when either side changes.
The short answer
What is a good Janitor AI alternative with better memory?
LoreWeaver is a Janitor AI alternative built for long roleplay. Import a character as a Tavern card (PNG, JSON, or CHARX) and it arrives with its portrait, greetings, and lorebook; as you play, the storyteller saves memories every few replies and keeps a running recap, so details survive long after they scroll away. Mature themes between adults are allowed, and on the free plan the free storyteller is unlimited, with 25 premium replies a day on top.

| What matters | LoreWeaver | Janitor AI |
|---|---|---|

Where each one wins
An honest split decision.
Where LoreWeaver is stronger
- Memories are written as you play and recalled by meaning and keywords, with a running recap of the story. Nothing to paste into a memory box.
- Characters come and go freely: a Tavern card imports with its lorebook as lore cards, and any world you create exports again as a file.
- Storytellers come with every plan, so there are no proxies, API keys, or second bills.
- Characters live in worlds, with places, factions, and a LoreMap of how they connect.
- Swipe, branch, and rewind any reply, and memories follow the story you kept.
Where Janitor AI is stronger
- A far larger community library, so there is almost always a bot for an idea.
- Native apps for iPhone and Android, alongside the website.
- You can connect an outside AI service with your own key and pick any model it offers.
- The free JanitorLLM costs nothing to use, with Janitor+ for more context.
Inside an imported card
A character who keeps the thread.
Forty nights after the import, Vex still knows which debts you paid and which promises you kept. The card’s lorebook fills in the city; memories fill in everything you did there.

“You paid my debt to the Saints without asking me. That was months ago. I still haven’t decided whether to thank you.”
Moving your characters
Move a character over in four steps.
- 01
Find the card
Look for the original card.
Many creators share the same character as a Tavern card on Chub or their own pages. If one exists, download the PNG or JSON.
- 02
Or copy it
Copy a bot you made.
Janitor AI has no export, but your own bot’s edit page shows its personality, scenario, initial message, and example dialogs. Copy them out.
- 03
Import
Bring it in.
Drop a card on My Stuff to import it whole, or paste the copied fields into a new character world. Put your Chat Memory in a pinned lore card.
- 04
Play on
Pick up the story.
Choose a greeting, or describe where you left off. From here, memories and recaps build on their own.
Questions
Coming from Janitor AI.
01Can I import my Janitor AI characters?
Janitor AI has no export, so there are two routes. If the creator shares a Tavern card (PNG, JSON, or CHARX), import it whole; for bots you made, paste their personality, scenario, and greeting into a new character world.
02Is LoreWeaver free like Janitor AI?
Yes. Free accounts get unlimited replies from the free storyteller and 25 premium replies every day. From $7.99 a month, paid plans add premium storytellers, longer context, and more memories per story.
03Do I need an API key or a proxy?
No. Storytellers are built in on every plan, including the free one, so there is nothing to connect and no separate bill.
04Does LoreWeaver allow NSFW roleplay?
For adults, yes. Accounts are 18+, mature themes including sexual content between adults are allowed, and stories stay private unless you publish them. Hard limits, such as anything involving minors, are listed in the community guidelines.
05Why do Janitor AI bots forget things?
Every chat app shows the AI a limited window of recent text. On JanitorLLM that window is about 8,000 to 9,000 tokens, shared with the bot’s definition and your Chat Memory. LoreWeaver keeps 6,400 tokens in view on the free plan and up to 100,000 on paid plans, and memories, recaps, and lore cards bring older details back on top.
06Does LoreWeaver work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, tablet, or desktop, with nothing to install, and your stories are waiting on every device.
