Review · Alternatives
The SillyTavern alternative with nothing to install.
SillyTavern hands you every control and asks you to run it yourself. LoreWeaver makes the opposite trade. This review sets out what you give up, what you gain, and how your cards and World Info come along.
LoreWeaver publishes this review. SillyTavern facts come from its own documentation and its source code on GitHub, listed under Sources, and we update the page when either project changes.
The short answer
Is there a SillyTavern alternative with no install and no API key?
Yes. LoreWeaver runs in any modern browser with its storytellers included, so there is no server to run and no API key to paste. The trade is control: you can’t connect your own model, key, or local backend. Your SillyTavern cards import as PNG, JSON, or CHARX files with their greetings and World Info, World Info files become lore cards, and the free plan gives unlimited replies from the free storyteller plus 25 premium replies a day.

World Info, carried over
Your World Info, translated field by field.
Import a World Info file from any world’s Lore tab and every entry becomes a lore card. The title, content, and plain keys come across, constant entries arrive pinned, and settings that only steer SillyTavern’s own prompt stay behind.

Order of the Lantern

Moving your library
Move your cards and your World Info.
- 01
Cards
Export each character.
In SillyTavern, open a character and export it as a PNG or JSON card. A World Info book bound to the character rides inside the card.
- 02
World Info
Save the books themselves.
In the World Info panel, use Export World Info to save each book as a JSON file. Imported from its own file, a book keeps its plain keys as tags.
- 03
Import
Bring both across.
Import the cards from My Stuff, where each one becomes a character world, then add the World Info files with Import lore in that world’s Lore tab.
- 04
Pick up
Begin from a greeting.
Chats stay in SillyTavern. Start from one of the card’s greetings, or write a few lines about the story so far in the session notes.
Questions
Answers for SillyTavern users.
01Can I use my own API key or a local model?
No. LoreWeaver runs its own storytellers and doesn’t connect to outside services, keys, or local backends. If choosing the model is what matters most to you, SillyTavern is the better home.
02Will my SillyTavern cards work?
Yes. Tavern cards from V1 to V3 import as PNG, JSON, or CHARX files, with the portrait, the description, example dialogue, up to 10 greetings, and any World Info inside the card.
03Does World Info keep its keys?
A World Info file imported from a world’s Lore tab does: plain keys become tags, constant entries arrive pinned, and disabled entries arrive switched off. A card exported from SillyTavern marks every key inside it as a regular expression, which LoreWeaver doesn’t run, so a book that rides inside a card is matched by its entry titles instead. Import the book’s own file when you want keyword matching.
04Can I bring my chat history?
No. SillyTavern chats don’t import. Begin a new session from a greeting, or summarize the story so far in the session notes, which the storyteller reads on every turn.
05Do I have to set up summaries or vector storage?
No. The storyteller saves a memory every few replies, keeps a running summary of each session, and recalls memories by meaning, keywords, and importance on its own. A story keeps 30 memories on Free, 300 on Plus, 1,200 on Pro, and unlimited on Ultra and Legendary.
06Can I see what the storyteller was sent?
Yes. Under the latest reply, the context inspector breaks down what went into it: the story so far, lore cards, memories, the story summary, your session notes, and the world’s settings.
07Is my data private?
Your worlds stay private to your account unless you publish one, and LoreWeaver doesn’t use your private content to train AI models. One thing no hosted service can match: SillyTavern with a local model keeps every word on your own machine.
