Drop a character card

PNG, JSON, or CHARX cards from SillyTavern, Chub, Janitor AI, RisuAI, and any app that uses the Tavern format.

Read in your browser. Nothing is uploaded until you import.

The short answer

How do I import a SillyTavern or Chub character card?

Export the character as a Tavern card (a PNG, JSON, or CHARX file, the format SillyTavern, Chub, and RisuAI share), then drop it on this page or use Import in My Stuff. LoreWeaver reads the card in your browser first, so you see the portrait, greetings, and lorebook before anything uploads. Importing creates a character world with the definition as its premise, each greeting as an opening, and the lorebook as lore cards, free on every plan.

What comes with it

Nothing you built is left behind.

Every part of a Tavern card has a place here, and the character gains something no card can hold on its own: a story that remembers.

Why bring them here

A character is better with a world.

See how story memory works
01

Memory

Still remembered, long after it scrolls away.

Long stories are distilled into memories and recaps, so the first scene you played together still matters deep into the story. How many memories a story keeps depends on your plan.

02

Lore

The lorebook arrives on cue.

Entries become lore cards that step into the story when their keys come up, instead of crowding every reply.

03

World

Room for everything around them.

Add the places, rivals, and factions your character lives among, map how they connect, and plan turns with the Loom.

04

Voice

Hear them answer.

Voice calls work with imported characters from the first scene, with captions you can follow along.

Step by step

Import a character card in four moves.

  1. 01

    Export

Save the card from your app.

In SillyTavern, open the character and export it as a PNG or JSON card. On Chub, download the PNG card. Any app that speaks the Tavern format has a similar export, usually in the character’s menu.

  2. 02

    Drop

    Drop it on this page.

Or press Choose a card. The file is read in your browser, so you see the portrait, the greetings, and the lorebook count before anything uploads.

  3. 03

    Import

    Import it in one click.

Signed in, press Import. New here? Create a free account and the card waits in this tab, then My Stuff opens it again so you can import it with one click.

  4. 04

    Play

    Answer the first greeting.

Your first story opens on the card’s first greeting. Start a new session whenever you like to begin from another one, and the storyteller remembers from the first reply.

Compare LoreWeaver with Character.AI
01

SillyTavern

Leaving SillyTavern? No server, no keys.

Bring your PNG or JSON cards, and load World Info files from any world’s Lore tab. LoreWeaver hosts the storytellers, so there is nothing to install or configure, on desktop or phone.

02

Chub

Your Chub cards, ready to play.

Download a character from Chub as a PNG card and import it in seconds, portrait and lorebook included. Characters you made yourself can be published to the Hub.

03

Janitor AI

From Janitor AI, with a memory.

Drop in the card you built the character from, or paste its definition into a new character. Memories and recaps carry long chats forward instead of losing the thread.

04

Character.AI

From Character.AI in a minute.

Character.AI has no export, so start a character here from its description and greeting. The story steers where you take it, with memory from the first reply.

Questions

Before you import.

01Which character card formats can I import?

Tavern cards in all three specs (V1, V2, and V3) as PNG images, JSON files, or CHARX archives. SillyTavern World Info, NovelAI, AI Dungeon, and FictionLab files import too, along with LoreWeaver’s own JSON exports.

02Can I import characters from Janitor AI?

Yes, when you have the character as a Tavern card file. If you only have the definition, start a new character and paste it in; it takes about a minute.

03Do I need an API key, like with SillyTavern?

No. LoreWeaver hosts its storytellers, so there is nothing to install and no key to manage. The free plan includes unlimited replies from the free storyteller and 25 premium replies a day.

04Does the lorebook come with the character?

Yes. Each entry becomes a lore card keyed to the same words, so it steps into the story when those words come up. Always-on entries arrive pinned, and disabled entries arrive switched off.

05Do {{char}} and {{user}} still work?

Yes. {{char}} becomes the character’s name, and {{user}} becomes your character’s name once you set a persona or a player name for the story. Older macros such as <USER> and <BOT> are converted when the card is imported.

06What doesn’t carry over?

Creator notes and tags (the viewer still shows them), app extensions such as SillyTavern’s depth prompt, and lorebook settings like insertion order, depth, probability, and secondary keys. Entries with regex keys import without those keys, so they come into a scene through their title or when you pin them.

07Is my imported character private?

Yes. Imported characters live in your own account and appear in the Hub only if you publish them. Publish only characters you made or have the creator’s permission to share.

08Is importing free?

Yes. Importing is free on every plan, with no limit on how many characters you bring, and you can start playing right away with the free storyteller.
