The short answer

What is a good Perchance AI chat alternative that saves your stories?

LoreWeaver saves every story to your account, so the same scene opens on your phone, tablet, or computer, and clearing a browser never erases it. You can play any Hub world as a guest for 20 replies without an account, then a free account carries the story over, with unlimited replies from the free storyteller and 25 premium replies a day. Memories are written every few replies with nothing to switch on, and Tavern character cards import as PNG, JSON, or CHARX.

Updated

One story, every device

Start on the laptop, finish on the phone.

Perchance keeps a chat in the browser that started it. LoreWeaver keeps it in your account, so last night’s scene, its memories, and its lore are waiting wherever you sign in next.

You

You say "I brought the black feather. Now tell me what the raven saw."

“The raven saw you coming three nights ago, which is more warning than you gave me. Sit. Tea first, prophecy after.”

Memory writtenYou brought Morwen the black feather she asked for, and she agreed to read the raven’s omen.

Where each one wins

What each one does best.

Where Perchance is better

  • Completely free, with no account, no paid tiers, and no message cap.
  • Unlimited AI images at no cost.
  • Your chats are stored in your own browser, not on a server.
  • Tavern cards import as PNG, WebP, or JSON, and characters can be shared as links.
  • Everything exports to a file you can import again later.

Where LoreWeaver is better

  • Stories live in your account, so they follow you to every device and survive a cleared browser.
  • Long-term memory is on by default: memories every few replies, recalled by meaning, plus a running recap.
  • Lore cards join a reply when their names come up, inside worlds with places, factions, and a LoreMap.
  • Planned story events with the Loom, and swipes, branches, and rewinds that memory follows.
  • Premium storytellers on every plan: 25 premium replies a day on Free, more on paid plans.

Moving a character

Take a character beyond one browser.

  1. 01

    Find the card

    Reuse the card you imported.

If your character came into Perchance as a Tavern card, use that same PNG or JSON file here. It brings the portrait, greetings, and any lorebook.

  2. 02

    Or copy it

    Copy what you wrote.

For a character you made in Perchance, copy its description and opening message, press + Character in My Stuff, and paste them in.

  3. 03

    Play

    Pick up the scene.

Start from the greeting, or describe where you left off. The story saves to your account as you play.

  4. 04

    Anywhere

    Open it on any device.

Sign in on your phone, a tablet, or another computer, and the story is there with its memories and lore.

Questions

Perchance players often ask.

01Is LoreWeaver free like Perchance?

Mostly, with one difference. Perchance is free with no account at all. On LoreWeaver you can play 20 replies in any Hub world as a guest, and a free account then gives unlimited replies from the free storyteller and 25 premium replies a day. Paid plans add more premium replies, more context, and more memories per story.

02Why did my Perchance chats disappear?

Perchance keeps chats and characters in your browser’s own storage rather than on a server. Clearing site data erases them unless you exported them first, and a different browser or device starts empty. LoreWeaver saves stories to your account instead.

03Which characters can I bring from Perchance?

Any you have as a Tavern card in PNG or JSON, or as a CHARX file. LoreWeaver doesn’t read WebP cards or Perchance’s own export file, so for those, copy the character’s description and first message into a new character.

04Does LoreWeaver have long-term memory?

Yes, and it is on from the start. Every few replies the storyteller saves a memory, recalled later by meaning, keywords, and importance, and it keeps a running recap of the story. A story keeps 30 memories on Free, 300 on Plus, 1,200 on Pro, and unlimited on Ultra and Legendary, and you can edit or delete any of them.

05Can I take my stories with me?

Yes. Any story downloads as a Markdown transcript, and any world you made exports as a JSON file with its lore cards, Loom threads, and LoreMap.

06Is mature content allowed?

For adults, yes. Accounts are 18+, and mature themes between adult characters are allowed, explicit scenes included. A short list of hard limits applies everywhere, starting with anything involving minors.
