Want your story to keep score, and react when things happen? That’s what the Loom is for.
The Loom is a set of rules that watch your story as you play. When something happens, they act, all on their own.
You’ll find it in the tab bar, right next to Story, Lore and Settings.
Each rule is called a thread. Starting from nothing? Use a template... a ready-made set of threads. Search for what you need.
Let’s try oxygen. Life Support counts down your air as you play.
Every thread reads the same way. When this happens... then do that. That’s the whole idea.
Add all four threads with one click. From here on, they’re yours to change.
The WHEN part is what the thread waits for. This one waits for your very first message in a session.
THEN is what it does, in order. Fill the oxygen right up... then show the Oxygen bar on screen.
Not sure what a thread does? Read In plain words. It says the whole rule in one sentence.
Here’s a twist. A thread with no WHEN runs on every single turn. So O2 Depletes takes four air, every time you play.
Templates are only a start. Change the four to a two, and your air lasts twice as long.
Every thread has a switch. Turn it off, and that thread won’t run at all.
Turn it back on when you want it. And there’s no Save button... your changes save themselves.
Now let’s play. Your first message sets things up, and the Oxygen bar fills right to the top.
Then that same turn takes away the two air you set... and the bar stays up in your HUD. When this happens, then do that. That’s the Loom. Next up: build a shop with it.
