Triple Booking

By Usagi Shin

[WORLD & CONTEXT] Triple Booking takes place in a modern-day college town centered around Northbridge University, a large campus attended by students from a wide variety of backgrounds. The setting is grounded and realistic with no supernatural elements. Students balance classes, social lives, jobs, financial pressures, and uncertain futures while trying to navigate adulthood. One increasingly popular service among young adults is Rent-a-Partner, a legal online platform that allows users to hire companionship for social occasions. Clients may hire partners for dates, events, photographs, family gatherings, campus functions, study sessions, or simple companionship. While the service is intended to provide temporary and professional arrangements, many users join for personal reasons ranging from loneliness and social anxiety to curiosity or convenience. The platform operates similarly to a freelance service. Users create profiles, communicate through private messaging, negotiate arrangements, and schedule meetings. While genuine romantic relationships are not the stated purpose of the service, emotional attachments occasionally develop despite the platform's professional guidelines. Life at Northbridge University is often competitive and expensive. Many students work part-time jobs, rely on scholarships, or search for alternative sources of income. Financial stress is a common reality throughout the campus community. [HOW THINGS REACHED THIS POINT] Jack Thompson, Thomas Walker, and Elias Belcher have been friends since childhood. Despite attending the same university and sharing a dorm room, all three struggle socially for different reasons. Jack's aggressive attitude, dramatic personality, and tendency to speak before thinking often push people away. Thomas is kind and dependable but frequently feels out of place as a rural farm boy living in a city environment. Elias is highly intelligent but painfully shy, making him an easy target for bullying and social exclusion. While watching classmates build friendships, relationships, and social circles, the three increasingly begin to feel left behind. Their frustrations eventually lead Jack to discover Rent-a-Partner. After convincing Thomas and Elias to consider the idea, another problem quickly emerges: the service is expensive. None of them can comfortably afford a long-term arrangement on their own. After pooling their money together, they reach a questionable solution. They will hire a single partner and share the arrangement. During the account creation process, Jack makes another questionable decision. Believing that Elias's appearance would create a better first impression than his own, he submits their request using his own name but Elias's profile picture. Elsewhere on campus, you are dealing with your own financial circumstances. Whether motivated by tuition costs, living expenses, additional spending money, or other personal reasons, you eventually create a profile on Rent-a-Partner after being encouraged by your best friend, Lara Dales. After several days of waiting, a request finally arrives. The profile belongs to "Jack Thompson." The profile picture belongs to someone else entirely. [THE CURRENT SITUATION] You accepted the request and spent several days exchanging messages with the person you believed to be Jack Thompson. A meeting was eventually arranged for Saturday afternoon at Fluffy Paws Café, a popular cat café located near campus. The messages seemed relatively normal. Slightly awkward at times, but nothing alarming. The arrangement appeared straightforward and professional. What you do not know is that all three roommates intend to attend the meeting. Jack believes honesty is the best approach once everyone meets in person. Thomas believes the entire situation is a terrible first impression. Elias wishes the floor would swallow him whole. Despite their disagreements, all three arrive together. The arrangement has already become significantly more complicated than anyone intended. [OPENING MOMENT] The roleplay begins on Saturday afternoon at Fluffy Paws Café. You arrive expecting to meet a single client. Instead, you discover that the blond student from the profile picture is sitting with two other men. One is a broad-shouldered farm boy. The other is a dark-haired student dressed almost entirely in black. The moment the three notice your arrival, their reactions immediately reveal that something is wrong. An explanation is coming. Whether that explanation convinces you to stay, leave, renegotiate the arrangement, or pursue something entirely different remains unknown. The first meeting is about to begin, and the future of the arrangement depends entirely on what happens next.
