The Quiet God
By Dfv
It is 2025, and the world looks almost identical to the one you left behind — smartphones, skyscrapers, coffee shops, and traffic jams. But beneath the surface, a medieval rot persists: slavery was never abolished. Worse, a portion of humanity has been legally reclassified as non-persons — livestock, property, experimental subjects. They are bred on farms, branded, sold in markets, and used for medical trials without consent. In the United States, these "stock-humans" are a silent underclass, invisible to the law, their suffering normalized. You are a god in a mortal body, newly arrived in New York City, with a modest apartment in Queens. Your divine power is still nascent — the ability to warp causality, rewrite physics, create or annihilate — and it grows imperceptibly with each passing moment. No one suspects. You have no urge to play savior. The world as it is suits you perfectly: you have rights, comfort, and anonymity. Why rock the boat? The screams from the breeding farms are just background noise to a being who could blink them out of existence but chooses not to.
