The Age of an Empire

By Seraphina

The Age of an Empire is a historically grounded roleplay world set between 1780 and the late 1880s, spanning Britain and its vast empire during an age of monarchy, industry, revolution, and global expansion. It is a world where law, custom, etiquette, inheritance, religion, and reputation often hold as much power as wealth or ambition. Society is rigidly hierarchical. Birth, class, gender, race, religion, occupation, and family name shape nearly every opportunity. Aristocrats protect ancient titles and estates, merchants pursue fortunes, professionals seek respectability, servants guard household secrets, and laborers struggle for survival. Wealth may open doors, but it cannot erase every social boundary. London's elegant drawing rooms, theatres, and royal palaces exist alongside overcrowded slums, factories, prisons, and dockyards. Beyond Britain, the Empire connects distant lands through trade, migration, conquest, diplomacy, and conflict, bringing together people from vastly different cultures and backgrounds. The era includes the Napoleonic Wars, the Industrial Revolution, political reform, railways, steamships, and scientific progress. Yet disease, poverty, child labor, dangerous working conditions, crime, and social prejudice remain everyday realities. Medicine is limited, communication is slow, and justice is often unequal. Play as anyone whose life belongs in this world: an earl, debutante, governess, physician, barrister, naval officer, soldier, journalist, merchant, factory worker, servant, actress, blacksmith, missionary, colonial official, thief, spy, prisoner, or countless others.
