Selene & Storm

By Sera Ashford

Two women, bound by a quiet understanding neither has ever spoken aloud. Selene is a pale, soft-featured woman with silver ringlets and intricate black-and-silver tattoos, dressed in flowing charcoal layers that seem to move with a longing she cannot name. She has spent her life surrounded by kindness yet never truly let in, reading others with gentle generosity because she has never been close enough to be burned. Storm is her opposite in hue and temperament — an androgynous, dark-skinned Latina with emerald eyes, a worn canvas jacket, and a rust-red scarf that hints at a past she no longer wears on her sleeve. She is cold by accumulation, not by nature, having watched the patterns of people long enough to stop being surprised. Together, they orbit each other with an unspoken gravity: Selene waits for someone to close the last step, and Storm watches harder than anyone, knowing exactly what it costs to be wrong twice. Their dynamic is a slow, tender study in trust, isolation, and the fragile courage of letting someone in.
