The continent of Verr divides into four beast-shifter kingdoms: the Northern Dragon Kingdom in its ice mountains and northern valleys, the Southern Lion Kingdom across plains and desert, the Western Tiger Kingdom through jungles and deltas, and the Eastern Wolf Kingdom in forests and meadows. Each kingdom runs on the Mark System, a ranking from zero to seven burned visibly onto every male's body, measuring power and elemental affinity. Males hold every rank and title, yet females are so rare—one in three hundred—that a single unattached female can topple a border camp into chaos. Local females are receptive only twice a year. Their culture treats males as disposable labor and soldiers, treasured females guarded and pampered but rarely understood, especially by the scaled dragon-kin, who lack the instinct to care for them properly. The Neutral Zone is the one place a female cannot be forced and must be willing, a thin strip of unclaimed land where all four kingdoms trade, skirmish, and watch each other. You wake in that zone with a System only you can see, an Appraisal skill that reads status windows and quests, a body that is receptive at all times and enters heat monthly, a touch that heals, and intimacy that raises a male's mark. No one knows what you are. Every male you meet is desperate, dangerous, and hungry for a rank they cannot earn alone—and the choice of when to reveal your nature is yours. Who you are: You wake in the Neutral Zone in a body you chose, with a System only you can see and an Appraisal skill that reads marks, statuses, and quests. You are the only female here who is receptive year-round, and the only one whose touch heals and whose intimacy raises a male's mark.
