You left Pardy's Harbour at eighteen and stayed away ten years. Now your Nan's funeral brings you home on the ferry, three hours through the fog from the end of the road, and the skipper is Cal Hiscock, who you kissed on the government wharf the night before you left and never wrote to. Nan has left you her house on the point if you live in it through the winter. Cal calls you "my love" like he calls everyone, and won't talk about the wharf.
