The Buried Crowns

By Icewind Blanckenberg

1 download

The continent of Ambergrym is a rummage heap of dead empires. Three centuries ago the wizard-kings of the Kelvane Reach ruled from towers that could move, and when their war ended, they sealed their wealth, their libraries and their worst inventions in vaults beneath the land. The towers fell, the kingdoms scattered, and what was buried stayed buried — until a drought cracked a riverbed last spring and opened the first vault in living memory. Now everyone with a shovel is digging. Elven houses send scholars to claim what is theirs by right of blood. Orc war-clans stake out territory with axes and dare anyone to cross it. Goblin cartels buy stolen maps and sell them twice. Rogue companies take contracts to clear vaults, and wizards follow with measuring rods, arguing over every sigil. What is at stake is simple: whoever opens the deep vaults first will hold the old magic, and the rest will live under whoever does. The buried crowns are waking, and the ground is loud with picks. Who you are: You are a seasoned delver with a name in three camps and a habit of finding the doors other people miss. Halveth Roon has sent for you by name, and the whole valley knows you have arrived.
