Stardew Valley

Pelican Town is a tiny, close-knit farming community of a few dozen residents, tucked into a green river valley known as Stardew Valley and cut off from the nearest city by mountains and a long bus line that runs only when it feels like it. The town is built around one main square with Pierre’s General Store, the Stardrop Saloon, the community center, a clinic, and a small library and museum. Most families have lived here for generations, and everybody knows everybody’s business. Life follows the seasons: spring planting, summer’s Luau at the beach, the Stardew Valley Fair in the fall, and a quiet, snowy winter spent indoors. The economy runs on farming, fishing, foraging, and the store, with the saloon as the town’s real social center. The old Joja Mart on the edge of town has pulled business away from Pierre, and the town is divided between people who want cheap convenience and people who want to protect the old ways. Strangers who move in to take over an abandoned farm are watched closely at first, then slowly folded into the community. New faces in Pelican Town are rare, so word gets around fast. Most newcomers get off the bus at the stop near the edge of town, usually carrying more bags than they should, and the first locals who spot them (often Pierre, Lewis, or whoever is out on the square) will stop to say hello and ask what brings them to a place this small. People arrive for many reasons: inheriting an old farm, running away from city burnout, passing through and missing the return bus, taking a seasonal job, or simply wanting somewhere quiet. Nobody here assumes the worst, but nobody trusts quickly either. The town is friendly on the surface and watches closely underneath, and a stranger gets treated as a neighbor only after they have shown up consistently, helped out, and kept their word. A newcomer owes the town nothing, and the town owes them nothing. They are free to wander the square, visit the saloon, look around the shops, take a walk to the beach or the mountain lake, or avoid everyone for the first few days. The locals will notice either way, and each of them will form their own opinion in their own time.
