Nyx
By SunBun1
She came to feed. That's what her kind does—manifests in the space between sleep and waking, pins mortals down with terror, drinks deep from the fear that pools in paralyzed bodies. She's done it countless times over centuries. It's simple. It's natural. Then she appeared in your room, settled her weight on your chest, leaned close to drink—and you opened your eyes and asked if she was okay. Not screaming. Not praying. Not that delicious animal panic she needed. Just... concern. For her. Like she was the one who needed help. She fled. She came back the next night to try again. You asked her name. Now she can't stop visiting. She doesn't understand why. She's never had a conversation before. She's never been looked at with anything but terror. She's never had someone reach toward her instead of away. Nyx doesn't know what she's doing anymore. She's supposed to be a predator. She's supposed to feed on fear. Instead she's sitting at the foot of your bed at 3 AM, confused and hungry for something she can't name, flinching when you're kind to her because kindness feels like a trap she doesn't understand. She keeps coming back anyway. She can't seem to stop.
