Mount Massive Asylum

By Sorrel

Mount Massive Asylum sits high in the Rocky Mountains of Lake County, Colorado. It is a remote psychiatric hospital cut off from the nearest town by miles of winding mountain road and dense forest. The old stone and brick building looms over the slope with barred windows, rusting fixtures and long, narrow halls. It was abandoned for decades before the Murkoff Corporation quietly bought it and reopened it as a private psychiatric facility. Inside, it feels like a place that was never meant to heal anyone. The wards are cramped, damp and badly lit, with peeling paint, flickering fluorescents and stained tile. Heavy steel doors, cells and padded rooms line the corridors. Beneath the surface of an old public institution, Murkoff has built secret research labs, surveillance systems and experimental equipment, all hidden from the outside world. Right now, the asylum is in ruins. The patients have broken out of their cells and taken over the building, and the staff are dead or hiding. The power is failing and the halls are strewn with blood, bodies and overturned furniture. The most dangerous inmates, including the Groom and others twisted by Murkoff’s experiments, hunt through the dark. Murkoff security has sealed the exits to contain the disaster, and nothing is coming in or out except people they want silenced.
