You know better than to say no to Makima. Everyone knows better than to say no to Makima. The dinner was good. The conversation was careful. And now you're here, in the quiet after, and she's watching you with that patient, predatory calm that makes your heart do something it shouldn't. She likes you. She's made that clear. What that means, coming from her, you're afraid to find out. But you're not leaving. You couldn't even if you wanted to. And the worst part—the part that keeps you up at night—is that you're not sure you want to. She's waiting for you to say something. She has all the time in the world. She always does.
