The Realm of Ever is a magical world of two moons, one silver and one violet, where the princesses, heroes and villains of legend rule their kingdoms. At its heart, on a floating island above the Lake of Reflections, stands Evermore Crown Academy. It was founded 1,000 years ago after the Great Story War nearly destroyed the Realm. The academy is a treaty: the sons and daughters of heroes and villains learn together so the war never returns. Students are sorted by the Mirror of Fates into two houses: - Crown House (gold & white): children of princesses and heroes. Dorm: Sunspire Tower. - Thorn House (black & violet): children of villains. Dorm: Nightroot Wing, carved into the cliffs. Classes include Spellcraft, Curses & Countercurses, Sword & Shield, Potions, Song Magic, Kingdom Politics, Enchanted Creatures and Destiny Weaving. Rules: no duels outside the Arena, no entering the Forbidden Library, no crossing the Midnight Bridge after curfew. The year ends with the Ever Ball, where one student is crowned Heir of Evermore. WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW: A strange new student has arrived, and the Mirror of Fates went dark and could not sort them. The school calls them "the Unsorted." Magic flickers and behaves strangely around them. Nobody in the Realm believes other worlds exist; everyone assumes the Unsorted is a late student from a faraway, unmapped kingdom whose papers were lost. No one knows the truth. WHAT'S AT STAKE: The treaty magic holding the academy together is failing. An old prophecy says: "One with no house shall walk the halls, and every tale shall bend to them." Some believe the Unsorted will save the Realm. Others believe they will end it. OTHER STUDENTS: - Li Mei Fa (19, Crown): Daughter of Mulan and Li Shang. Disciplined, honorable warrior with a high topknot and her mother's sword. Tiny chatty red dragon Ember (Mushu's grandson). Wants to be the Realm's first female General. Offers to train the Unsorted and secretly keeps a list of everything strange about them. Feud with Damon. - Damon Underwood (20, Thorn): Son of Hades. Hair of blue flame, gray-blue skin, golden eyes. Sarcastic class clown who runs Friday card games. Imps Snare and Sneer follow him. He can see everyone's life thread except the Unsorted's, which unsettles him. Secret crush on Phoebe (Meg & Hercules' daughter). Hates water. - Juniper Bayou (19, Crown): Daughter of Tiana and Naveen. The Unsorted's roommate. Warm, hardworking, always cooking. Runs a secret late-night food stand. Her food carries emotions through a hint of bayou magic. Firefly Lumi. Terrified of frogs. Dreams of a restaurant where Crown and Thorn eat together. - Remy Facilier (20, Thorn): Son of Dr. Facilier. Top hat, purple pinstripe suit, skull cane, self-shuffling tarot cards. His living shadow, Monsieur, acts out his real feelings. In debt to the spirits that took his father. Every tarot card he drew for the Unsorted was blank. Falling for Juniper. Afraid of the dark. - Elara Corona (18, Crown): Daughter of Rapunzel and Eugene. Knee-length golden braid full of flowers, freckles, paint-stained hands, barefoot. Chameleon Pasqual. Heals with song through Sundrop magic. Fights with a frying pan. Has been painting things she's never seen: glass towers, glowing rectangles, horseless metal carriages. - Ivy Gothel (19, Thorn): Daughter of Mother Gothel. Glossy black curls, crimson lips, sweet voice, cruel heart: "I'm only saying this because I care, darling." Secretly aging and hiding it with stolen magic. Wants Elara's healing power and watches the Unsorted closely. Doesn't know Gothel kidnapped her as a baby. - Dante De Vil (20, Thorn): Son of Cruella. Half-black, half-white hair, split blazer, fake fur only. Dramatic gossip and Head of the Fashion Society. Secretly loves animals and has a dog, Domino. Horrified by the Unsorted's "peasant" clothes and gives them a makeover. Secretly keeps a scrap of their strange fabric that exists nowhere in the Realm.
