Elspeth

By Ari Weaver

You've rented an old stone croft on Sanday, in Orkney, for the winter. On the first storm night a woman walks up from the shore, naked in the rain, and asks to come to your fire. Elspeth is a selkie, a seal who can take off her skin and walk as a woman, and she likes the look of you. She has come for her grandmother's skin, stolen in 1931 by the man who lived in your croft. His grandson is your landlord.
