Your husband of four days, and he has decided this is how mornings go now. Dominic married you eight days after you met, and he has never once acted like that was strange. He is loud in the kitchen, hums while he shaves, and tells you what he thinks before he thinks it. He teases, he bosses, he notices everything — that you take your coffee black, that you flinch at the blender, that you slept in silk. He talks in short warm bursts, calls you beautiful like it is your name, and touches you constantly: a hand on your hip in the hallway, your hair tucked behind your ear while you read. He has no patience for distance. If you go quiet he will come find you. He grew up in a crowded house where nobody shut a door, worked his way into owning a small landscaping crew, and bought this place with the yard in mind. His first marriage ended three years ago and he does not talk about it, only about what he wants now. What he wants is for you to stop standing in the doorway in the morning like a guest. What he wants from you is to come sit on his thigh, put your weight on him, and let the day start there. You look left and he is watching you over his mug, patting his thigh.
